Employee of the Quarter – JS J7 Technical Support Team Names Shameca Williams

Awards

Each quarter, Knight Federal’s Employee of the Quarter (EOQ) award for the Suffolk, VA location recognizes the outstanding qualities and contributions of employees towards Knight Federal’s goals and mission. Knight Federal recognizes that driven and loyal employees empower an organization.  This fourth quarter the award recipient covers October-December 2019 is Shameca Williams.

Shameca is one of four individuals that will receive the award each year. The honor is awarded the beginning of April, July, October and December during the Christmas party for an outstanding employee from the three preceding months.

EOQ 2019 Winner:

October – December – Shameca Williams

Shameca Williams

Shameca worked computer and printer setup for three major events, ensuring the floor plans were accurate and equipment was ready. Simultaneously she was working daily trouble calls for the JTEN-S and JTEN-U networks, and working to provide remediation for the workstations on both networks identified by IA’s ACAS as having outdated software, vulnerabilities, and older OS versions.  Workstation remediation sometimes takes hours, or days, and even full computer replacement at times.  She worked thru it all successfully.   She always had a smile on her face, and a positive attitude.

As if this was not enough to tackle, Shameca also assisted in the move of the TB 22 and 24 occupants to their new spaces in TB 19.   She assisted with data file moves, and physical workstation moves and reconnections for some.  She has a very pleasant demeanor that is a great asset when interacting with the customer and coworkers.   Shameca is a very behind-the scenes kind of person.   She is so quiet you don’t even know she is in the room, but her work is very important and much appreciated in support of this contract.   Shameca is a true team player.  Her exceptional performance during this period is in keeping with the highest standards of the Joint Staff as a whole and is a credit to Knight Federal Solutions and the Joint Staff J7 Tech Support Team.

The Employee of the Quarter will receive:

  • A gift card for $50
  • A framed certificate recognizing their accomplishments
  • A Knight Federal imprinted leather notebook

Complete the EOQ Nomination Form and submit it to the program manager Murray Hess.  Anyone may nominate an employee. Nomination forms may be submitted at any time.   Nominations are due the week before the end of the quarter.

Chris Baeten Named to Orlando Business Journal’s 40 Under 40

Awards
Chris OBJ 40 Under 40

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 18, 2019  — Chris Baeten has joined the ranks of the Orlando Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, an award that recognizes young leaders in the Central Florida region who play a key role in shaping the community.

According to the Orlando Business Journal (OBJ), Orlando is a fast-growing U.S. city and that means there are plenty of leaders who not only helped put it in that spot, but who also are moving the City Beautiful forward.

That includes a slew of young professionals who have chosen to remain in Central Florida and help make it a better place for everyone to live, work, play and learn. In today’s business environment, young people make up a huge chunk of the professional workforce. They start companies, work in fast-growing occupations and are diverse in many ways. Understanding this group of professionals is key to anticipating the needs of the workforce — and business-to-business consumers — of tomorrow.

The OBJ received hundreds of nominations and a special judging committee — which included some former honorees — narrowed that down to the class of 2019. The winners were chosen based on going above and beyond to achieve impressive business accolades, despite their youth, while also making a difference through their community involvement.

Baeten was selected because as a young leader he is shaping our community.  He has proven his potential by taking leadership roles in his business industry by the strength and growth of his company Knight Federal Solutions, a provider of simulation and training, cybersecurity, information technology, finance and intelligence analysis solutions to the Defense and Intelligence sectors, focused on developing mission driven, cost-effective solutions empowering results.  Also, he is dedicated to improving the life of others in the community, which sets him apart. At age 38, he truly reflects the vision of Central Florida as an inclusive and diverse business community with innovative young leadership.

As a visionary, Baeten is creative and thoughtful in how he has evolved Knight Federal Solutions since he acquired it back in 2013.   He is a CEO that leads people with the flexibility of empowering them to fulfill their potential.   Within five years, he has grown the company and scaled it to impressive heights – it now ranks on the Inc 5000 List for 2019!

What sets Baeten apart from others is his willingness to be open-minded and also to take calculated risks.  Sometimes the end result is not easily seen but only attainable by making the jump to the other side – in his words “Charge On.”  It is that creativity and youthful energy that propels Knight Federal to stand out among many small businesses and generate the type of loyalty from employees that few companies truly embrace.  Entrepreneurs can be creative but sometimes not willing to listen to advice or counsel and then experience pitfalls or challenges that become insurmountable.

Baeten is approachable and trustworthy and surrounds himself by talented people.  He has high expectations but his team delivers because he develops the strategy and tools that help achieve success.

Understanding the true value that employees play in a company’s success is what makes Knight Federal’s team all the more loyal and willing to go the extra mile.  These are not words but rather a mantra and philosophy that he puts into practice and delivers.  The authenticity and genuineness that he has as a leader sets him apart from others.  Baeten has implemented an employee awards and recognition program that showcases the talent he develops.  He has invested in speakers that motivate and energize his team and understands the role team building and professional development play.

Additionally, as a younger CEO he is willing and open to form partnerships and alliances with other companies and teaming partners, but also sees the value and relevance of experience, as was indicated by his decision to recruit senior talent in the appointment of Tim Baker to lead the Purple Knight Initiative.

Baeten has created a true team environment and works to build up and mentor his employees. The trust and value he places in them shows and has propelled the company to achieve new opportunities but also has strengthened its performance with current clients to cultivate a reputation for quality, consistency and reliability that help to elevate it from competitors.  His company is an equal opportunity employer and he fosters teamwork at all levels.

Baeten is a father and loyal husband.  He represents how a man can embrace the corporate world but also integrate his family values.  He serves as a mentor and is giving back to his university, community and employees.  He shows respect for the country by honoring the most vulnerable in the population – combat wounded warriors.  Baeten puts into practice true leadership and service, traits that are representative of special leaders.

Knight Federal honored as a veteran-friendly workplace

HVMPD-plat

Knight Federal has received the HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor for its commitment to hiring U.S. military veterans. Knight Federal is one of only 6 employers in Florida to receive this recognition.  26 Employers  headquartered in Florida received the Gold award.

“Knight Federal is extremely proud of this achievement,” says Chris Baeten, CEO of Knight Federal Solutions. “Veterans are proven leaders who bring a valuable skill set to our company. We are honored by this recognition of our commitment to advancing veteran careers. And we see investing in veteran-specific programs and resources as an ongoing part of our talent development strategy.”

Committed to veteran hiring and retention

The U.S. Department of Labor launched the HIRE Vets Medallion Program as an effort to recognize employers for their commitment in recruiting, employing and retaining veterans. It is the only veterans hiring award at the federal level. Knight Federal was evaluated based on its veteran hiring and retention practices, availability of veteran-specific resources, leadership programming for veterans, dedicated human resources, and compensation and tuition assistance programs for veterans.

Knight Federal aims to provide civilian careers for military veterans by creating a culture that includes principles that veterans valued in active duty, such as teamwork, taking pride in what you do, valuing new ideas, and an environment that fosters teaching and learning.

Supporting military families

Knight Federal doesn’t just offer support to veterans, but also to their families. Knight Federal understands that a person’s career change can impact their family, too, so it partners with the Department of Defense to connect military spouses with a network of partner employers who are committed to hiring military spouse talent.

A clear strategy for veterans

Shawn Lopez, Program Manager of the Purple Knight Initiative, is a military veteran who has thrived in a career at Knight Federal thanks to the company’s culture and values.

“After military retirement, I longed for an organization whose values aligned with mine. It is evident that Knight Federal has a clear strategy, and I could see how my experience and personal attributes could lend to the organization’s vision and goals,” says Lopez.

Knight Federal has developed the Purple Knight Initiative.  Collaborating with government agencies and their prime contractors, non-profit organizations, corporations and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, this program provides paid internships to wounded warriors who are looking to learn a new career in fields that are conducive to their disabilities and desires for employment.

“We developed this program to address a critical need by our nation’s combat disabled veterans.  By connecting companies and employers with qualified, impactful and passionate veterans, we can offer hope to advocate, embrace, empower and support them to lead a higher quality of life and be in a better position to support themselves and their families financially,” says Chris Baeten, CEO of Knight Federal.

With the veteran in mind first, Knight Federal Solutions is dedicated to the safety and welfare of the veteran and will do its best to educate, manage, and train all employees on veterans in the workforce, including finding reliable resources for the veteran’s needs.

Message from the CEO

Awards, From the CEO, News

I hope everyone was able to enjoy their summer!  We sure did at Knight Federal, where we celebrated our 6th anniversary in May.  The past few months have been very busy for us, as we experienced the most successful quarter since our company’s inception.

We have continued to grow our presence at the Joint Staff J7 where we were are now supporting the Joint Training Information Management Systems/Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JTIMS/JLLIS) and at the National Media Exploitation Center (NMEC) supporting the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).  We also expanded our capabilities to a new location supporting USARPAC in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

In May, Knight Federal was very humbled to be selected by Northrop Grumman to receive their 2019 World Class Team Supplier Award, an honor bestowed upon only a select few companies in the country.

We were honored to be recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the 5000 fastest growing companies across the nation.  In addition, the Orlando Business Journal recently announced that KFS was nominated to be on their list of the top 15 Modeling, Simulation, and Training Companies in Central Florida.  All of these recognitions are great, but it is all because of the employees we have that represent our company to the fullest.  Every KFS employee should feel proud of the company you work for and what we represent.

Keep up the great work everyone and I hope to see you all soon!

Spotlight on Matt Herring

Awards, Community Involvement, News

Matt HerringThis issue we are profiling Matt Herring, Knight Federal’s Vice President of Business Development.

Herring has been with the company since its inception in 2013 and has been a critical part of growing the company into what it is today. Since Knight Federal’s inception, he has been instrumental in every aspect of the company’s growth. Herring’s business development efforts allowed Knight Federal to grow more than 40% in the last two years. During this time Knight Federal added more than 30 employees. His ability to capture, propose and win business led to Knight Federal’s award of its first prime contract in 2017.

In addition to winning the first prime contract, Herring added new contracts and customers to Knight Federal’s portfolio while expanding and fortifying their current capabilities. Recently, he helped Engility, an SAIC Subsidiary, win a $106 million Defense Intelligence Agency contract which includes Knight Federal as a subcontractor.

“SAIC’s partnership in support of this effort has been an excellent experience. Their dedication to the mission never waivers and it shows through each communication. We are thankful to continue our support of this program and appreciate each of the Knight Federal employees who continue to exceed our customer’s expectations,” says Matt Herring.

As an emerging company, Herring wears many different hats in his role. In the competitive world of government services, his understanding of the market and network have allowed Knight Federal to be poised for strong revenue growth in 2019 and beyond.

“Being with Knight Federal has been an awesome experience, sharing a closet office with Chris in the early days without employees to outgrowing our current office space and employing more than 100 people has been both challenging and rewarding. I sincerely appreciate working for Chris and executing his vision. The autonomy and trust he puts in me allows us to move a lot faster than our peers within this industry,” says Herring.

As the Vice President of Business Operations, Herring is in charge of developing business in the Department of Defense and Intelligence sectors, as well as forming strategic partnerships within industry and government.

“The potential for exponential growth of Knight Federal is in very good hands,” says CEO Chris Baeten.

In addition to his focused business skills, Herring is a passionate and community-minded individual. He sets the bar for excellence and strives to achieve that in all he undertakes. Whether it is immersing himself into the growth of Knight Federal or giving back to his local community or alma mater, he makes an impact in many positive ways.

Herring serves as a Big Brother/Mentor through the Washington region’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters. This meaningful, monitored mentorship between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 7-18 years old, in communities across the National Capital Area, develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters has a stellar record in helping children on a daily basis make healthy choices to stay in school, stay out of trouble, and on track toward healthy and productive futures.

In Herring’s service as a volunteer for Highway Heroes Rescue Transport, he drives legs typically from Alexandria to Baltimore for dogs in need of safe transport to a rescue or adoption home.

As a board member of the Friends of Theodore Roosevelt Island, Inc. (FoTRI) since 2017, Herring serves alongside a group of passionate volunteers eager to support the National Park Service in its ongoing efforts to preserve and protect the unique presidential memorial that is Theodore Roosevelt Island. He led fundraising for the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the island to Theodore Roosevelt and raised more than $1,000 in support of the event in both cash and in-kind donations.

FoTRI is a 501(c)(3) organization that was established in 2015 to appreciate the natural beauty and historical significance of the living memorial to Theodore Roosevelt and to ensure that Theodore Roosevelt Island is protected and preserved for future generations. The diverse passions of the board members include: history buffs, admirers of Theodore Roosevelt, conservationists, runners, kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, birders, dog walkers, and naturalists – reflect the broad range of activities on, and wide appeal of, the Island.

FoTRI serves as an active force for ensuring that the memorial plaza, trail system, and woodland landscape remain a fitting tribute to President Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy of conservation. Herring and the volunteers work to increase the recreational and educational opportunities at the Island, including programming to help visitors appreciate both the beauty of nature, and the force of nature that was the nation’s 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt. With his help and that of the board members, visitors today and in future generations will enjoy the beautiful and serene natural urban setting that is symbolic of all the natural lands in America that Theodore Roosevelt loved and protected.

Herring volunteers with the University of Florida Alumni Association (DC Gator Club). He also participates in various community cleanups and fundraisers at national parks in the area. Additionally, he supports Catoctin Mountain Park as a BARK Ranger Volunteer with Helen and Keller, his adopted deaf dogs.

Herring is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He obtained his MBA at Nova Southeastern University. Herring is married and resides in Reston, Virginia with his wife Kylie and their two dogs Helen and Keller.

Awards, News, Press Releases

Inc 5000 team picKnight Federal Solutions Ranks in the Top 50 from the
Metro Orlando Area with Three-Year Revenue Growth of 117 Percent

Inc. magazine revealed on August 14, 2019, that Knight Federal Solutions is No. 3,132 on its annual Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.  Translate that to the companies from Florida being named to the list and Knight Federal Solutions ranks #261 in Florida, #78 among honorees in the IT System Development field and #33 in the Orlando metro area.

The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

“We are extremely proud to have earned a spot on the 2019 Inc. 5000 list,” says Chris Baeten, CEO of Knight Federal Solutions.  “For companies of our revenue size, it requires a determined effort from a great team along with fantastic partners to achieve this growth and profitability at the same time.  This award is a credit to the entire team!”

Not only have the companies on the 2019 Inc. 5000 (which are listed online at Inc.com, with the top 500 companies featured in the September issue of Inc., available on newsstands August 20) been very competitive within their markets, but the list as a whole shows staggering growth compared with prior lists. The 2019 Inc. 5000 achieved an astounding three-year average growth of 454 percent, and a median rate of 157 percent. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue was $237.7 billion in 2018, accounting for 1,216,308 jobs over the past three years.   Knight Federal’s revenue growth over the past three years is a staggering 117 percent!

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/inc5000.  The link for Knight Federal is available at https://bit.ly/33Dvu4S.

“The companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have followed so many different paths to success,” says Inc. editor in chief James Ledbetter. “There’s no single course you can follow or investment you can take that will guarantee this kind of spectacular growth. But what they have in common is persistence and seizing opportunities.”

The annual Inc. 5000 event honoring the companies on the list will be held October 10 to 12, 2019, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. As always, speakers include some of the greatest innovators and business leaders of our generation.

About Inc. 5000 – Methodology
The 2019 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2015 and 2018. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2015. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2018. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2015 is $100,000; the minimum for 2018 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. Knight Federal Solutions Teams with Engility, An SAIC Subsidiary to Win $106 Million Defense Intelligence Agency Contract

Award Expands Services for Potential 10-Year Performance Period

Engility Corp, a subsidiary of Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC), teamed with small business subcontractor Knight Federal Solutions, a solutions provider of simulation and training, cyber security, information technology, finance and intelligence analysis solutions to the Defense and Intelligence sectors, to win a single-award, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract worth potentially $106 million by the Defense Intelligence Agency’s National Media Exploitation Center (NMEC).

The new contract provides for continued media management and analysis work, and will expand these services to include all of the DIA Science and Technology Directorate. Knight Federal Solutions has been a supporter of this program as a small business subcontractor to Engility since 2016. The contract award comes on the heels of SAIC’s $2.5 billion acquisition of Engility, completed in January 2019, as part of its strategy to expand its intelligence community portfolio.

“Since we have teamed with Engility, we have experienced growth of existing capabilities and gained new experiences within the NMEC. We are excited for the opportunity to continue supporting SAIC through the life of the follow-on and the stability it offers us to continue supporting this customer and mission,” says Matthew Herring, Vice President of Business Development at Knight Federal Solutions.

The IDIQ carries a potential 10-year period of performance. The contract supports NMEC’s training, document and media management, program support, and related intelligence operations. The team assists NMEC with document and media exploitation processes like data acquisition, ingest, processing, reporting, and timely dissemination to ensure the chain of command is immediately informed of any changes or developments based on media gathered by the U.S. military and intelligence community.

“Partnering with the DIA is a privilege we take seriously,” said Michael LaRouche, executive vice president and general manager of SAIC’s National Security Customer Group. “Expanding our services to the entire Science and Technology Directorate offers our team of intelligence and data analytics experts a great opportunity to bring value and technological innovation to even more missions.”
